On a separate note, the guy who made a really popular expansion for the Civil War questline in Skyrim that had been famous for years took down his mod.

But then people started uploading his stuff to the Steam Workshop, so he decided to erase all his legitimate download links, get the reuploads taken down from Steam Workshop (I think, can't remember if that was successful), and cancel the public releases of some of the other content he was working on.Īnd then there was a different guy who ported the Elite Riot Gear armor from Fallout: New Vegas into Fallout 4, and when that was reuploaded to other sites, he did the same thing.Īnother guy had some really interesting mods that I don't think were ripped assets, but when they were shared without his permission, he took it all down, too. Taking your ball and going home only punishes the innocent people who legitimately enjoyed your work. You put something out there for the public, you no longer have complete control of it. I mean, you can do whatever you want with your work, even delete it, but there's a point when you just become completely immature and unreasonable. If game developers/publishers had the same attitude they had, then the market would cease to exist as everyone pulls all their products from stores to punish piracy and asset theft. They act like their work is somehow sacred and more respectable than the games they get their content from. when the mods they made were ripping assets from other games and porting them to something else.Ī lot of these people just have a really inflated ego about their work.
I can't tell you how many times I've seen modders for games throw a hissyfit when someone reuploads their mods to another site without their permission, and then go on a rampage deleting all their own mods from wherever they can find them.
